India and Bangladesh have agreed to enhance intelligence sharing and increase coordinated border patrols amid ongoing tensions over undocumented migrants.
The decision was announced in a joint statement following a four-day meeting between senior officials of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in New Delhi.
Both sides described the discussions as positive and forward-looking. The two countries agreed to strengthen real-time intelligence exchange and conduct coordinated patrols to prevent illegal, accidental, and forced border crossings.
Bangladesh has raised concerns over allegations that some migrants were being pushed across the border without following proper procedures. The issue has become sensitive as both nations work to address undocumented migration and maintain stable bilateral relations.
The meeting also focused on human trafficking, smuggling, border-related deaths, infrastructure development, and the implementation of the Coordinated Border Management Plan. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and security along the more than 4,000-kilometer shared border.
Senior border officials from both nations are scheduled to meet again in Dhaka in November.
