Guilt Confession Solves Kerala Murder Mystery After Decades
A decades-old murder mystery in Kerala has finally been solved after a man overwhelmed by guilt confessed to a killing that occurred nearly 40 years ago. The revelation enabled investigators to identify a young man whose body had remained unidentified since it was discovered in a stream in 1986.

Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Mohanan, a resident of Kannur district, who had gone missing while searching for work. His body was recovered years ago, but due to the absence of family members or identifying documents, he was buried as an unidentified person.

The breakthrough came when 56-year-old Muhammad Ali approached police and admitted involvement in the incident. According to investigators, he said the confession was prompted by deep emotional distress following the death of his eldest son and an accident involving another child. He reportedly told authorities that years of guilt, regret, and sleepless nights finally compelled him to come forward.

Muhammad Ali claimed that an argument broke out while he was working as a farm laborer in his teenage years. He alleged that during the confrontation, he pushed or kicked the victim in self-defense, causing him to fall into a nearby stream before fleeing the scene.

Following the confession, police reopened the case and revisited the location. Investigators prepared a sketch based on the details provided and launched inquiries across northern Kerala. The victim's relatives later recognized similarities between the sketch and their missing family member.

Further verification, including old photographs and family records, helped authorities confirm the victim's identity. Police are continuing legal proceedings and are expected to file a detailed charge sheet in the case.
