Iran to File FIFA Complaint Over World Cup Travel Restrictions

Iran's football federation has announced plans to file an official complaint with FIFA over travel restrictions imposed on the national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. According to federation officials, the measures have disrupted the team's preparations and affected the coaching staff's plans for the tournament.

The dispute centers on Iran's request to travel from its base camp in Tijuana, Mexico, to Los Angeles two days before its upcoming Group G match against Belgium. Iranian officials said the request was made to allow players sufficient time to adapt to local conditions and complete final training sessions, but it was reportedly rejected.

Following Iran's 2-2 draw against New Zealand in Los Angeles, the team was required to leave the United States within hours of the match and return to Mexico. Iranian officials argue that the arrangement places their squad at a competitive disadvantage compared to other teams.

US officials have defended the policy, saying Iran was informed in advance that players would only be allowed to enter the country one day before matches and would have to leave on the day the games conclude. The same procedure is expected to apply for Iran's remaining group-stage fixtures in the United States.

The controversy comes after months of uncertainty surrounding Iran's participation in the World Cup and has added a political dimension to the tournament. Iran now hopes FIFA will review the restrictions and ensure equal treatment for all participating teams.
