Bhubaneswar. A shocking incident of mob violence has emerged from Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, where a man was allegedly tied to a tree and assaulted by a group of villagers.
According to reports, Sipun Malik, a resident of Baghiagadi village under Kaptipada police station limits, was at his home when more than 30 people allegedly arrived and forcibly dragged him outside.
The attackers reportedly tied him to a tree and beat him with sticks, leaving him seriously injured. When his eight-month-pregnant wife attempted to rescue him, she too was allegedly assaulted by members of the crowd.
Local sources said the dispute was linked to an old financial disagreement. Sipun and several other villagers had been working outside the state and had recently returned home for the Raja festival when tensions escalated.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and rescued the injured couple. Both were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police officials said efforts are being made to identify all those involved, and legal action will follow based on the findings.
