Nurpur/Jasur: A tragic incident was reported from Himachal Pradesh's Kangra district on Monday, where a four-and-a-half-year-old child was swept away by strong currents in the Jabbar Khad stream after heavy rainfall caused a sudden rise in water levels.
The deceased has been identified as Avid Khan, son of Billa Din, a resident of Kyari village under Bhaloon Panchayat. The family reportedly lives in a temporary settlement near the stream and is engaged in animal husbandry.
According to local officials, the child was playing near the stream when torrential rain caused the water level to rise rapidly. He was caught in the strong current and swept away before family members could rescue him.
After receiving information about the incident, local residents, police, and administrative officials launched a search operation. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also deployed and recovered the child's body after an extensive search.
The incident has left the entire village in mourning. Local representatives have urged the administration to provide financial assistance to the bereaved family.
Nurpur SDM Arun Sharma said that a report is being prepared and further action will be taken as per official procedures. Authorities have also advised residents to stay away from rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas during the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
