Deoria: A violent clash broke out between two groups of priests at the renowned Baba Mahendranath Shiva Temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district over the distribution of temple offerings and worship-related rights.
The incident, which occurred inside the temple premises under Madanpur police station limits, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media. The footage allegedly shows an elderly priest being beaten with sticks by multiple individuals.
According to local reports, an argument over donation collections and ritual responsibilities escalated into a physical confrontation. Devotees and local residents intervened to separate the groups and restore order.
Police have registered cases based on complaints from both sides. Rudrapur Circle Officer Satyendra Rai confirmed that six accused persons have been arrested and further legal proceedings are underway. Authorities said the situation in the area remains under control.
